I moved everything yesterday. I don't have much to say right now since I'm still unpacking boxes. I'm a photographer, and "if there's not a picture, it didn't happen." lol Here you go.

Today's Practice Shoot

When I told her she HAD to brush her hair first, she seriously considered staying home. No slushie was worth that! We jumped in the van right about the time I should've been shooting. It was very cloudy and now it was getting dark. I decided to use my flash, ebay triggers, and umbrella. On the way to the park, I saw some blue flowers in a field right by my house. After parking, I realized that dramatic lighting might look kinda funky with bluebonnets. We shot behind the building instead. It might have been cool to do the flowers, so I'll try that next. Well... right away, my stand blew over and my umbrella crinkled like tissue paper. : ( Note to self: get sandbags, a new umbrella, and a mini flashlight to help grab focus. I uncrinkled the umbrella and snap! off we went. Here's one from tonight:

Recently I spent some time hanging out with Troy and his family at their house. My assistant (my husband) spent most of the shoot holding a huuuuuge light diffuser over his head. (He was amazing!) Here's my favorite from the session.

Yesterday I didn't get home until James was already in bed. Bummer. I'm looking forward to hanging out tonight. I don't know where we'll go, but it really doesn't matter when you're spending time with someone you love.

Oh, and all the photography students returned plus we got more! It's gonna be fun!

Wow! College was different. I'm the only one over 20, I think. I wonder if everyone is going to stay or if they were surprised about the $400+ camera requirement. No point and shoots in that class.

I'm getting really excited about shooting Johnny's senior photos!

Today I'm walking to the dentist, getting shots in my mouth (oh how fun) and teeth fixed, and then walking home again. It's only a mile or so, but it is in the 30's. What an adventure!

I've been fighting a weird infection. It must be caused by teacher's stress! We moved the tractor here from our land since it's under contract!! Yaaay! It's nice to see my old friend when I look out my window. We need to get some tractor work soon. Amanda's first basketball game of the season is today, and the youngers go to soccer. And the weather is gorgeous today!

There is a park in the middle of our friend's neighborhood. I drove by it on Labor Day near dark, and it had flags draped over the gazebo. Blue lights were shining up from below. I took a really grainy picture of it that I will add in a few days. The photo is definitely in the snapshot category, but my teens like it. So, it's my photo of the day for Labor Day.

I wanted a photo of Theo's. We used to go there on our way to the horse pasture when we were in high school (80's). Theo's has been around since the 50's, so my grandparents and parents also ate at this "hamburger joint." It's the kind of place where you pull up front under the awning, and the waitress comes to get your order at your car.

When I drove around back to get a better shot of the sign, I saw this super cool truck. It's Theo's truck. I went inside to let them know that I wasn't a weirdo. I just wanted to take some pictures. Theo was at the grill still cooking the burgers after all these years. (Maybe it's Theo Jr.?)

Amanda learned how to set a custom wb on this shot. Andrew devoured that history book again today.

Nothing fancy from me today. Just a snapshot of school. School is pretty much taking all our energies, except for the hour or so of getting Aaron ready for the day. In this picture my focus is off (top of her head / pencil area). I have some other shots that depict our day for the POTD, but I don't have time to process them right now. So this one it is! I'm grateful to be alive and to have all the blessings we enjoy.

Today was the first day of school! Yay! It was a good day. It was. But it's hard because life always presses so close that I have to fight everything to have the time to teach. People come in and out, talk, needed talk but I don't care. I am jealous for the quiet times...I resent the phone, the doorbell, the family, the favor, the phone calls I need to make, whatever while I'm trying to teach. My kids need to learn! I should be in bed; but I'm still flinging out the stress of the day. Photography or any creative pursuit helps. Oh, and Andrew grabbed his history book and curled up on the couch. By the time I got to him, he had read about a third of it. And our bathroom has been clean for two days in a row. That has to be a record. See, it really was a good day.

The last photo shows what I feel happens while we do school. The bokeh is life speeding by behind us, and it's pulling the books and learning away with the urgency of the moment.

This is my fluffy self. I hate seeing myself in pictures! All I can think about is my weight. However, I don't want there to be a big blank in our family's photo history. Since I want the few pictures of me to be good ones, I figured I better get practicing to find my best angle. Everyone has a best side, right? I made mini calzones for dinner tonight since Andrew has been requesting calzones for a long time.

I used the Pampered Chef Cut and Seal that I got from freecycle.

My girl suggested I make a mini pizza with the leftover dough.

I saw this recipe on Rachael Ray's show. It's flank steak (although I used whatever was on sale) pounded thin, spread with spinach, topped with gorgonzola (although I couldn't find any this time so I used blue cheese and sharp cheddar), and then you roll it up. Oh, I used a montreal steak spice, too. I love my grill pan!

Kyle is explaining how the wreck occurred. Another motorcycle (going over 100 mph) hit my son's motorcycle from behind. Aaron went airborn and slid across 3 lanes of the highway and hit the concrete barrier in the middle of the highway. He has a compression fracture of L1 vertebrae and extensive road rash. He was wearing a helmet and gloves, so his head and hands are not injured.
